Grey Towers, LIVING HISTORY PROGRAM: President Theodore Roosevelt on his friend, Gifford Pinchot. 5:30 pm.

President Theodore Roosevelt re-enactor Joe Weigand helps kick off our 2010 Visitor Season with a living history program, highlighting how the Rough Rider president and his friend Gifford Pinchot not only started the US Forest Service but changed how America practice conservation of our natural resources. Grey Towers, Evolution of the Grey Towers Landscape: Springtime in Cornelia’s Gardens, 1:30 pm.

Come see the gardens awaken from their winter slumber. Meet Horticulturist Elizabeth Hawke at the Visitor Pavilion for a guided tour of native flowering shrubs, the historic Sweet Cherry Tree, which should be in full bloom, the flowering bulbs in the landscape and a tour of the historic landscape.

Take a walk through time on this ently slopping trail that follows the history of the Pinchot family from when thy arrived in Milford in the 1820s  to 1963, when Grey Towers was onated to the American public.

Gain an appreciation for today’s forest management challenges with this hands-on introduction to the history of forestry in America. Celebrate the Pinchot gift of Grey Towers to the American public with a re-creation of Gov. Gifford Pinchot’s popular ice cream social. Tour the mansion for free and join us for free ice cream; view the video of President John F. Kennedy’s 1963 dedication of Grey Towers.

Autumn in Cornelia’s Gardens, 1:30 p.m..

Brilliant red, yellow and orange leaves will be ablaze for this landscape tour. Meet Horticulturist Elizabeth Hawke at the Visitor Pavilion to view the fabulous foliage displays of the native shrubs, the Japanese maple display, the historic Sugar Maple planted by General William T.
